The Constantia Valley is the oldest wine producing region in the Southern hemisphere & is at the heart of South African wine making, dating back to 1685, when wine was first made on the farm named Constantia.

This wine region’s unique combination of terroir and climate, with its cool maritime influence by the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, is ideal for producing world-class wines.

Vineyards enjoy cool sea breezes and late exposure to the afternoon sun, ideal for the slow ripening of grapes.

Napoleon’s favourite wine “Vin de Constance” originated from Constantia.

Groot Constantia wine estate in Cape Town used the French translation “Grand Constance” and “Vin de Constance” on its wine labels.

It was Constantia wine that Napoleon Bonaparte enjoyed during his reign as Emperor of France.
